Bloomingdale Golfers Club is one of those rare places that lives up to its billing. Bloomingdale is truly a "golfers club." You sense it when you first arrive at the course where you'll find a modern clubhouse, unrivaled practice facilities and a golf course that's been consistently rated among Florida's Top Ten. What you won't find are tennis courts, swimming pools or a bridge club. The management and the members at Bloomingdale are very serious about their golf.

The club has been a haven for PGA Tour and LPGA players since its inception in 1983. Lee Janzen, Gary Koch, Colleen Walker and Dale Eggeling have all been members. PGA Tour players Michael Bradley, Steve Stricker and Pete Jordan as well as LPGA players Lisa Walters and Vicki Goetz-Ackerman are currently members. These professionals enjoy the exceptional practice facilities, the demanding golf course and its excellent condition. Their presence just adds to the mystique surrounding Bloomingdale.

The golf course is built on an unspoiled natural setting of 100-year-old oaks, tall pines and a natural marsh preserve teeming with wildlife. Land planner Don Buck developed the conceptual idea for the course and architect Ron Garl drew the plans. Bloomingdale embodies the natural look now popular with golf course architects. The course's residents include a bald eagle, several sawbill cranes, some sixty species of semi-rare birds and the ever-present raccoon, which has become Bloomingdale's trademark.

Water comes into play on fourteen holes. From the Raccoon Tees, the course stretches out to 7,165 yards. However, five sets of tees allow golfers to pick their poison. The fairways are generally wide but trouble lurks everywhere. Tree-lined fairways, pampas grass, massive waste areas, deep grass bunkers, thirteen lakes and contoured greens are enough to challenge players of all skill levels.

The good holes keep coming at you when playing Bloomingdale. The blend of straightaway holes and doglegs of varying lengths and directions keep the course interesting and demanding. The ninth hole is a particularly devilish par-5. It's a double dogleg with water bordering both sides of the fairway. At 512 yards from the blue tees, it's not a particularly long par-5. In fact, it can be reached in two shots by long hitters. But this hole can turn a respectable front nine into a nightmare. After a good tee shot, you're left with a choice. You can lay up long or short. Either shot is a "white knuckler" with water closing in on all sides. A well-executed short lay up leaves you about 150 yards over wetlands to a green guarded on three sides by water. A good long lay up leaves you a 75 to 100 yard pitch shot with a better angle to the green. It's a potential birdie hole that can easily turn into a Snowman or worse.

Evergreen Alliance Golf Limited (EAGL), a fourteen-year-old golf course management company headquartered in Irving, Texas, purchased Bloomingdale Golfers Club in May 1999. Evergreen actively operates forty-five golf courses in fourteen states, including River Hills Country Club and Westchase Golf Club in Hillsborough County. Evergreen is committed to the highest standard of customer service in every aspect of the golfing experience.

Evergreen has already made substantial improvements to the facilities at Bloomingdale, including new cart paths, new bulkheads, repaving of parking lot and staging areas, and upgrades on the driving range and the golf cart fleet. These improvements totaled an investment of over $500,000 in 1999.

Evergreen has committed to further capital improvements in 2000. They have already invested in new maintenance equipment for the golf course. Their goal is to restore Bloomingdale's hard-earned reputation for having the finest greens in Hillsborough County.

Bloomingdale's new management team includes General Manager Bill Barnard, Head Professional Alan Hiers, Superintendent Scott Sutton and Food and Beverage Manager Kevin Robinson. They are all working diligently to make a round of golf at Bloomingdale the best experience possible for both members and the golfing public alike.

Bloomingdale offers a full range of golf services. The target green driving range is perfect for practicing full shots. The target greens simulate on-course conditions, giving players something specific to aim at. For short game practice, there's a large pitching green. The one-acre putting green will prepare you for any possible putting situation on the golf course.

Golf instruction by PGA professionals is available for every level of golfer from beginner to professional. Golf clinics are are available for juniors, ladies and executives. John Bradley, a PGA lifetime member, is Bloomingdale's honorary teaching professional.

The full-service restaurant serves breakfast and lunch daily. There's also a full-service beverage cart on course daily staffed by friendly attendants.

Krissy Chalk, EAGL's new tournament coordinator, has put together golf tournament packages for any occasion and level of event. She will gladly customize a package for your tournament needs. Krissy can be reached at (813) 651-4419.

Bloomingdale is a semi-private course and welcomes daily greens fee play all day Monday through Friday and after 12:00 noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Bloomingdale Golfers Club is located one mile south of Bloomingdale Blvd. in Valrico, a Tampa suburb about five miles east of U.S. Highway 301.
